Intra-state e-way bill roll-out in 5 states from 15 April, says FM

E-Way bill operations are compulsory for inter-state movement of goods throughout the nation and intra-state movement for Karnataka from 1st April, 2018.

New Delhi:  For movement of goods the Intra-state e-way bill roll-out from 15 April. It is currently being started from five states including Andra Pradesh, Gujarat, Kerala, Telangana and Uttar Pradesh.

The same for intra – state, or within the state movement, will be rolled out from 15 April, the finance ministry said in a statement. The 5 states which would form part of the first phase include Uttar Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Gujarat and Kerala. E-way bills have been compulsory from 1st April for moving goods worth over Rs 50,000 from one state to another.

“With the roll-out of e-way bill system in these states, it is expected that trade and industry will be further facilitated insofar as the transport of goods is concerned, thereby eventually paving the way for a nation-wide single e-way bill system,” the ministry said.

Trade and industry and transporters located in these states may obtain registration/enrolment on e-way bill portal.

Since the rollout of inter-state e-way bill movement of goods from 1st April, more than 63 lakh such bills have been generated till Monday. Karnataka is the only state which had implement the e-way bill system for intra-state movement of goods from 1st April. The GST council, last month, had decided to implement the e-way system with inter-state from 1st April and intra-state from 15th April.

Touted as an anti-evasion measure and would help boost tax collections by presenting pressure on the cash on the basis of cash basis, the e-way bill provision of the goods and services tax (GST) was first introduced on 1st February.

However, its implementation was put on hold after the system developed glitches in generating permits. Along with several states also starting to generate intra-state e-way bills on the portal, the system developed a barrier. Since then, the platform has been made more robust so that it can handle 75 lakh inter-state e-way bills without any disturbance.
